City Council Hears Updates on Public Works Projects and Alcohol Sales

During last week’s Princeton City Council meeting, officials received important updates on the electric plant board’s cold weather preparedness, city revenue from alcohol sales, and various public works projects.

Mayor Brock Thomas relayed information from Superintendent Chris Poole about a few safety issues that have been addressed at the Public Works building.

He also noted that Monday’s tree trimming on Main Street, carried out by Public Works and the state, was successful.

In addition, Mayor Thomas said that work crews from the Caldwell County Jail had completed several cleanup projects around town.

click to download audioIn other reports, Councilman Jim Joiner shared an update from the Princeton Electric Plant Board and expressed gratitude to the electric crews and general manager for their efforts during the ice storm.

click to download audioDespite TVA hitting its highest demand peak last week and urging customers to conserve energy during bitter cold, Joiner stated that the Princeton Electric Plant Board had sufficient capacity to meet customer needs. Mayor Thomas praised General Manager Chris Burton for his preparedness for the cold weather.

click to download audioCity Clerk and ABC Officer Julie Poole presented the ABC report, showing a total revenue of $17,833 for November and approximately $180,175 for the year-to-date through November. She noted that these figures were slightly lower compared to November 2023.

Poole added that Code Enforcement Officer Alan Getz would be collaborating with Mayor Thomas this week to submit all necessary information to the state regarding the package store project.
