The Princeton Art Guild & Gallery has announced the work of Mary Lohran Jones is on display in its Charles Alvin Lisanby Gallery through February 28.

According to a written statement from Jones’ daughter, Christina Jones Martin of Princeton, her mother, Mary, was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1928, and was the only sibling interested in art. Encouraged by a high school teacher, Mary Jones pursued art despite a busy life. After marrying Richard “Dick” Jones, they moved to Cleveland, Ohio where she worked at a telephone company and raised two children.

Once her daughter started middle school, Jones took night painting classes and later developed an interest in ceramics. She taught ceramics at home before focusing entirely on it. After her son moved to Texas, Mary sold her ceramics business and moved to Parma, Ohio.

Following her daughter’s car accident, Mary spent a lot of time traveling between Parma and Princeton to help care for Chris’ son, Tyson.

Jones’ husband, Dick retired in 1988 and the couple moved to Marshall County to spend more time with Chris’ family. Mary became active in the art group at Marshall County and taught several classes there. While at Marshall County, Mary soon developed an interest in watercolors and she along with others in the art group displayed and sold several paintings at the local fair.

Mary and her husband moved to Princeton in 1997, where she became active in the local art scene. While in Princeton, Mary soon became known for her art talents.

Mary passed away in January 2015 at the age of 85, leaving a legacy of creativity and community involvement.

A dozen of Mary’s originals were donated to the Princeton Art Guild by Guild House member, Linda Fitzgerald Holt. According to Art Guild Director Melissa Peek, your purchase of the donated art pieces will help pay for a watercolor class in honor of Mary. She said excess proceeds will help with overhead costs for the Princeton Art Guild building.

Everyone is invited to attend an Artist Reception scheduled on Sunday, February 9th, 2025, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm at the Guild House. Peek said this is a casual come-and-go event, with light refreshments available.
