Campanile Productions announced this week that tickets are now on sale for their upcoming performance of “9 to 5, The Musical” — with music and lyrics written by Dolly Parton, and the original book and screenplay penned by Patricia Resnick.
Tickets can be purchased online at campanileproductions.com.
Performances will be March 13-16 at Hopkinsville’s historic Alhambra Theatre.
Dr. Jeff Riggs is back in the director’s seat, and a cast of 30 just completed a weekend of “boot camp” by spending 18 hours in rehearsal — where they learned music and choreography to get a jump-start on the show.
Anna Beth Riggs, choreographer, is leading what has been a mostly local cast working a little bit of overtime — with members from Madisonville, Princeton and Clarksville joining alongside folks from Hopkinsville.
In a written statement, Riggs said: “They’re killing it. They sound and look amazing.” And she thinks Hopkinsville, as well as regional visitors, are going to “love” how much fun the show is.
This play is based on the 1980 hit comedy film, one that saw Parton alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as three women who work to live out their fantasies of “getting even” against their company’s autocratic, “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical” bigot of a vice president.
Considered a cult classic, the original film grossed more than $103 million nation-wide, and the movie has long been credited as the main vehicle launching Parton as part of mainstream popular culture.
The musical stage adaptation, with new songs written by Parton, opened in 2009 on Broadway.
