Caldwell County’s beloved WW2 Veteran H.C. Beck celebrated his 99th Birthday on Valentines Day this week! On Friday’s Coffee Talk, Jennifer Bounds fulfilled a promise by dropping by “Coffee Talk” with a homemade cake, fully decorated for the occasion. Tess and Bounds tell the story of how it all came to be, and were surprised by a phone call that really made the visit special. Listen to the visit below:
On Saturday, (2/15/25) friends, family, pastors and even Caldwell officials dropped by to wish Beck a happy birthday at his home in Princeton. One of those officials, Sherriff Don Weedman, presented Beck with a pin, as Beck reminisced about wonderful memories over the years with the Sheriff.
Judge Executive Kota Young stopped by to wish him a happy birthday and visited with Beck, while he told the story of how he eventually became a Marine.
Everyone signed the registry and wrote a personal note to Beck while they were waiting to visit with him. Everyone was eager for a picture, a hug and a story or memory or two.
Eventually, the continuous flow of guests made their way into the dining room and kitchen, where there were decorated tables and counter tops full of sweets, finger foods and pizza. Beck says he handmade over a hundred pigs-in-a-blanket just for the occasion.
Mr. Beck wanted to thank everyone as he was presented with his cake, and of course, a song. Listen below:
