Crews Battle Floodwaters and Snowfall in Caldwell and Lyon Counties

In the wake of snowfall and rising floodwaters overnight, road crews in Caldwell and Lyon counties have been working tirelessly to manage road conditions and ensure public safety.

Caldwell County Emergency Management Director Joey McCaslin reported that a woman was rescued from her vehicle after it ran off the road into floodwaters on Highway 91 near Crider around 2:45 a.m. Sunday.

He noted that while the high water gradually receded, several county road closures occurred overnight.

McCaslin said that the city has been busy working to remove high water from neighborhoods Sunday morning, with one family evacuating their South Seminary home overnight.

click to download audioMeanwhile, in Lyon County, Judge-Executive Jaime Smith reported that as of 5:00 a.m. Sunday, crews have been salting roads due to the overnight snowfall and removing barricades set up for high water.

click to download audioShe said that the fire departments responded to several accidents overnight, and crews are currently working to restore water service after an issue in the Skinframe Creek area.

click to download audioRegarding road conditions following the snowfall on Sunday morning, Judge Smith indicated that most roads are either slushy or clear, with pavement mostly visible.

Caldwell County

KY 91 blocked by high water at KY 2080
KY 91 blocked by high water at the 17.9 mile point
KY 126 blocked by high water at the 1 mile point near Trigg County
KY 128 open with high water at 3.2 mile point
KY 139 blocked by high water at the 14.3 mile point

Lyon County

KY 1943 is closed with high water between the 3-4 MM near Skinframe Creek Bridge.

KY 293 is open with high water near the 2.5 MM at the intersection of KY 730.

KY 903 is open with high water at the 1.2 MM. This is between KY 730 E and KY 1272.

KY 3305 is open with high water between 0-2 MM. This is between KY 93 and U.S. 62 E.

KY 819 is closed with high water between the 2-3 MM.
