On Thursday morning, local officials provided updates on road conditions following recent snowfall, highlighting ongoing challenges with slick spots and the impact of frigid temperatures on road treatment efforts.
Public Works Director Chris Pool reported Thursday morning that some streets in the city of Princeton are still snow-covered and slick in spots. He said his Public Works crews are going to do some equipment maintenance and they will recheck the streets later Thursday morning but with the current temperatures he doubts there will be any change in road conditions Thursday.
Police Chief Mike Opalek reported that roads in Dawson Springs are about like they were Wednesday — cleared with the occasional slick spot. He said the temperatures on Thursday will be cold, so he’s not expecting any improvements to the roads. Chief Opalek also reminds everyone to remember their outside pets as it’s cold for them as well.
Lyon County Sheriff Brent White reported Thursday morning that the single-digit temperatures currently will not allow the salt to work very well on some of our roadways. He said the county’s main routes (US route highways & interstates) are in good shape. Some of the secondary roadways (state routes) still have some slick and hazardous spots so slow as you go. Sheriff White said their county roads had improved by yesterday afternoon but where snow was packed down, there could be some issues in places. He mentioned that the Lyon County Courthouse will be open Thursday. He urges everyone to stay in but if you must be out, be prepared for the brutally cold temperatures.
