Donald Allen Ryan, known affectionately as Don to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, in Paducah, KY, at the age of 77.
Born on February 21, 1948, in Marion, KY. Don’s life was marked by his dedication to his family and his passion for the river. As a respected River Boat Captain, he navigated the waters with skill and care. His commitment to service was evident through his active involvement with the Elks, VFW, American Legion, and his proud status as a Kentucky Colonel. He was a proud United States Marine having served four years during Vietnam and doing two tours. Don’s interests extended beyond his professional life, as he found joy in riding motorcycles and cherished the time spent with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Peggy Simms Ryan of Princeton; his father, Lonnie Ryan of Princeton; his children, Kelly Oakley and Chris Oakley both of Princeton; his sister, Brenda Knight of Princeton; his brother, Dwight Ryan of Eddyville; his cherished grandchildren, Taylor Howerton, Logan Shelton, Brooklyn Shelton, and Braden Fisher; and his adored great-grandchildren, Addison McDaniel, Rylan McDaniel, and Ella Howerton. Don also leaves behind his nephews, Chris Ladd and Jason Knight and his niece, Amy Oliver.
Preceded in death by his mother, Billie Travis Ryan; his grandchild, Tori Oakley; and his sisters, Marlene Ladd and Marsha Oliver.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Morgan’s Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Morgan’s Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Farless officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
