Judith “Judi” Thornton Wells passed away on March 13, 2025 at the age of 74, at her home in Princeton, KY following a long illness and a fulfilling life. She was born in Madisonville, KY, on January 23, 1951, to the late Evans Wood Thornton and Nell Nicholson Thornton. She graduated from Madisonville North Hopkins High School in 1969, where she was a cheerleader and voted Most Popular. She graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1973 with a degree in elementary education and was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. She received her Master’s Degree in education from Western Kentucky University in 1975. She taught 1st grade in the Hopkins County School District for several years prior to starting a family.
Judi married Marc A. Wells on December 16, 1976 after they began dating in Junior High School. Together they raised three children, Evans, Kent and Mary Alexia, in their adopted home of Princeton, KY.
For many years Judi was a member of Ogden Memorial United Methodist Church but most recently attended Emmanual Bible Church in Cadiz, KY. She was an active participant in a weekly Bible study with some of her best friends.
Judi is predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Edward William Thornton and Charles Evans Thornton.
She is survived by her husband Marc A. Wells, her sons Evans Wells (Julie) of Oxford, MS and Kent Wells (Callie) of Princeton, KY, her daughter, Mary Alexia Howard (Ben) of Owensboro, KY, and her grandchildren, Reid and Elizabeth Wells of Oxford, MS, Ari and Jude Wells of Princeton, KY, Wells and Rhoads Howard of Owensboro, KY and Alli Cundiff of Nashville, TN. She is also survived by her beloved dog Ollie.
In accordance with her wishes, Judi is to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Joy Patterson and Jennifer Quisenberry as well as Mercy Hospice for their dedication and kindness during her final days.
