Following a meeting with the National Weather Service in Paducah, Caldwell County Emergency Management Director Joey McCaslin and Public Works Superintendent Chris Pool offered an update on Friday afternoon to help residents prepare for the upcoming weekend storms.
McCaslin and Pool both suggest the most important thing to remember is preparation.
Pool reported the following streets in Princeton are closed due to high water:
- Faith Avenue
- Varmint Trace Road
- 900 Block of Mechanic Street
- Cox Street
- Downs Street
- South Seminary Street (currently pumping)
Pool assured Princeton residents they are doing all they can to locate and address flooding, but at this point, the flooded areas will most likely stay flooded for an extended time frame. He said there isn’t anywhere for the excess water to go, or to be pumped into.
Pool encouraged residents to remain at home and reminded them to report any road debris by calling the non-emergency dispatch number at (270) 365-7860. For emergencies, residents should dial 911.
Meanwhile, Caldwell County Road Superintendent David Waldrum reported around 5:00 p.m. a major culvert failure in District 3 had led to the closure of the area just before 650 Markham Road in the county near Lake Beshear. The road reopened around 8:00 p.m. after the repair was completed.
He also said the roads in Caldwell County that normally flood during heavy rains are probably flooded at this point. He reminded drivers to turn around; don’t drown. To report any flooding and/or debris on Caldwell County roads, Waldrum said to call dispatch at (270) 365-7860.
According to District 4 Magistrate Jeff Simms, Jo Jones Road is also closed.
In addition, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is reporting the following roads in Caldwell County have high water signs:
