At Monday night’s meeting, the Caldwell County School Board was presented with a partnership opportunity with Madisonville Community College’s TRIO Talent Search Program, aimed at supporting students’ paths to higher education.
MCC’s TRIO Programs Director, Temesia Perdue, explained that the TRIO programs began with President Lyndon B. Johnson’s 1960s war on poverty.
click to download audioPerdue gave an overview of the program and expressed MCC’s interest in including Caldwell County in the Talent Search Program’s upcoming five-year cycle.
Assistant Director Ali Frailey provided an overview of the TRIO Talent Search, explaining that it is designed to identify and support middle and high school students with the potential for higher education success. She said their mission is simple:

Frailey mentioned that they visit schools monthly to conduct workshops covering life skills, financial literacy, and more.

click to download audioFrailey emphasized that the TRIO Talent Search acts as a bridge, connecting students to the resources, encouragement, and guidance they need to seek college not just as a possibility, but as a plan.
After some questions and further discussion, Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Roach stated that no action was needed by the Board to accept the partnership with MCC’s Talent Search Program.
