EXCLUSIVE: Capitol Cinemas — The Next Chapter

After being closed for 2 years new life is being brought back to the historic downtown building that housed the Capitol Cinemas.
Lei Ann and David Brown bought and took possession of the building on June 24th.
In an exclusive interview with WPKY’s News Edge, David said he felt led to purchase the building and discussed it with his wife Lei Ann. After much prayer, they were led to a figure to offer for the building with the understanding if it was accepted that was their sign to proceed with the purchase. The offer was made and accepted and now they are in the process of assessing the building structure and determining the cost for necessary repairs. While that is being accomplished you will see a dumpster located in front of the building and repairs already being made to the front awning. The air conditioning units are located in that part of the building and have to be replaced.

The plan for the building is to create a Community Connection Center with the sole purpose to glorify God. The purpose of the building will be to connect with others and will be for everyone. The couple shared that in the past years with Covid we have missed being able to socialize and we need to be able to connect with other people; also with the tornado, our community needs something positive to look forward to and enjoy. There are several possibilities that could be offered and held when the repairs are completed.
David summed it up as they will host anything that glories God. He feels like having live plays, concerts and programs will help it indeed become a community connection center.

The Browns realize that there are major repairs that are needed since the building has sat empty for so long and asked the public to be patient with them.

A major goal for them is to keep the historical integrity of the building and maintain the familiar atmosphere. The seats will remain in place as well as the screen. There will be some additions to the stage to allow for live plays and concerts. The first stage of their plan is to concentrate on the main floor and get it ready for use.

Lei Ann said they are all about working together and building back our community with a place to come together. She added they are not there to take away from any other church or group but to promote unity with everyone.

David envisions it to also be a place for sports teams to come together after games and fellowship together.
