A Princeton teen charged with murder is facing an additional charge in connection to the shooting.
Princeton Assistant Police Chief Shane Allison reports that detectives received a complaint of a stolen handgun from a residence near the 800 block of Mechanic Street. He says the investigation revealed that the reported stolen handgun was used in the shooting that occurred on Saturday night, July 30 on Mechanic Street.
According to Allison, 18-year old Ashton Ocampo was charged with theft by unlawful taking (firearm) in addition to the murder charge he was arrested on Saturday night.
Princeton Police Chief Chris King reported that officers responded to a report of an altercation shortly after 9:45 Saturday night in the 800 block of Mechanic Street. Upon arrival, he said officers found the victim, 42-year old Gregory Cain on the front porch of a residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Cain was transported by EMS to the emergency room at Caldwell County Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
According to Chief King, the suspect, Ocampo was taken into custody around 10:20 that night after officers were told he was at the post office and wanted to turn himself in. Chief King said Ocampo was taken to the Princeton Police Department where he was interviewed and allegedly confessed.
Ocampo is lodged in the Caldwell County Jail.
