A Hopkins County man was arrested on warrants and for meth possession after he was reportedly injured when a tree fell on him over the weekend.
Providence Police report Officer Eric Elder responded to Leeper Lane around 5:00 Saturday afternoon to assist Providence EMS after a tree fell on 38-year old Abram Smoker, of St. Charles, while he was working for a tree trimming company. Smoker was transported to the hospital in Madisonville where he was treated and released.
Officer Elder interviewed Smoker and discovered he had active warrants for his arrest from Hopkins County. In addition, Smoker reportedly admitted to having a glass pipe in his pocket used for smoking meth. Police say he also admitted to smoking meth earlier in the day. During a search of Smoker, Officer Elder said he found a baggie of 2 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
Smoker was lodged in the Webster County Jail for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) 2nd offense and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as the warrants for second-degree cruelty to animals and disposition of carcasses within 48 hours.
According to Providence Police, Smoker is currently under a pre-trial diversion from Hopkins County after a possession of methamphetamine arrest on January 22 of this year.
