Princeton Man Indicted For Mechanic Street Murder

The Caldwell County grand jury indicted a Princeton man in connection to the July fatal shooting of 42-year old Gregory Cain.
A true bill was returned on 18-year old Ashton Logan Ocampo for charges of murder and theft by unlawful taking – firearm.
Princeton Police Chief Chris King reported that officers responded to the report of an altercation in the 800 block of Mechanic Street around 9:45 the night of July 30 where officers found Cain on the front porch of a residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Cain was transported by Caldwell County EMS to the emergency room at Caldwell County Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Ocampo was taken into custody later that night after he reportedly turned himself into police. Chief King said during Ocampo’s interview he allegedly confessed to shooting Cain.
Ocampo remains lodged in the Caldwell County Jail on a $1 million bond.
