Caldwell Jobless Rate Shows Continued Decline


The unemployment rate in the nine-county Pennyrile region saw another decline in August compared to the previous month and the same month in 2021.
Caldwell County’s August unemployment rate was 3.3%, which was six-tenths of a percent less than last year. The rate was 4.8% in August 2019 and 4.3% in August 2020.
The estimates from the Kentucky Center for Statistics show Caldwell County with a labor force of 5.978 people, which is an increase of over 500 people from August of 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
The numbers show 197 people actively seeking work in August.
In Lyon County, the August jobless rate was 4.1%, the same as July and down two-tenths of-a-percent from August of last year. Those numbers are about the same as 2019 and 2020.
The estimates show Lyon County with a civilian labor force of 3,178 people, up nearly 80 people from August of 2020.
The numbers show 130 people actively seeking work in August.
Statewide, unemployment rates fell in 111 counties between August of this year and last year, rose in six, and remained the same in three.
Oldham County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the state at 2.6%, followed by Cumberland County at 2.7%.
Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 11.7%. It was followed by 10 other eastern Kentucky counties — all over 6.5%.
