A traffic stop led to the arrest of a Providence man for possessing meth Tuesday.
According to Providence Police, Sergeant Carl Scheer and Officer Aaron Elder reported they stopped a vehicle on South Willow Street for an equipment violation around 4:40 Tuesday afternoon. When the driver, 38-year old Tommy J. Simms, was asked to get out of the vehicle, Officer Elder said he observed a glass smoking device in the center console. Providence Police K-9 Kora reportedly alerted on an interior compartment in the vehicle where a bag of suspected meth, a homemade pipe, spoon, two scales, a cut straw, and two needles were found.
In addition, police said they discovered that Simms’ license was suspended and that he was wanted out of Hopkins County for Probation Violations related to trafficking in methamphetamine and being a persistent felony offender.
Simms was lodged in the Webster County Jail for possession of a controlled substance (meth), possession of drug paraphernalia, no operator’s license, one headlight, along with warrants for probation violations.
