Voters Elect Brock Thomas As Next Princeton Mayor


The City of Princeton will have a familiar face and well-known community member serving as the next mayor after Brock Thomas received over 50% of the votes cast in the General Election.
The mayor’s race had the largest pool of candidates with four names on the ballot running for the non-partisan seat. Thomas received 54% (956) of the votes followed by Rick Blackburn with 29% (518), Joshua “Dunc” Duncan at 13% (227) of the votes, and Sean Schmacher with 4% (67).
Thomas, a former judge-executive in Caldwell County, told the News Edge he was humbled to be elected as the next mayor and thanked the other candidates for running a clean, positive race. He’s also looking forward to working with the city council and city employees for the next 2 years.


click to download audioThomas will be joined by all six of the current members of the city council who were elected to serve another 2-year term. Jim Joiner received the most votes out of the six council members with 18% (1,338) followed by Sheila Gates at 17% (1,308). Four of the candidates each received 16% of the votes — Carl Copeland received 1,252, compared to Brian Conger’s 1,246 votes, while Pat George received 1,236 votes and Morgan Rousseau received 1,221.
