A 16-year old juvenile in Lyon County has been charged in connection to a November house fire and attempting to solicit others to shoot two of his family members.
According to Lyon County Sheriff Brent White, his office was notified Wednesday about a possible incident that a juvenile student may attempt to bring a firearm to school. He says when the student arrived at the high school, he was detained by deputies along with two other students that were detained to obtain additional information.
Sheriff White says the investigation revealed a 16-year old male juvenile student had stolen a handgun off-campus but had not brought it to school with the weapon later located at the juvenile’s home. In addition, deputies determined the juvenile had reportedly attempted to solicit two other persons to “assassinate or shoot two of his relatives.”
When family members of the juvenile were contacted, Sheriff White says they were unaware of the threat, which deputies believed was legitimate and imminent.
As the investigation continued, Sheriff White says deputies found evidence of additional criminal activity and interviewed the juvenile about a fire that totally destroyed a lake subdivision house in his neighborhood which occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. on November 30. White says enough evidence was collected to charge the juvenile with arson.
After enough evidence was collected by deputies, the juvenile was charged with two counts of solicitation to commit assault in the first degree and single counts of theft of a firearm and third-degree arson. He was lodged in a juvenile detention facility in Bowling Green.
Sheriff White says the investigation determined no events related to any of these crimes actually occurred on the school campus and once the suspect was identified, he was removed from the school campus and has had no further contact with other students since he was detained.
