The Cave-in-Rock Ferry has halted operations due to weather conditions. Due to the extremely cold temperatures, District 1 spokesman Keith Todd with the transportation cabinet says moisture is rising off the river and freezing on the ferry, which limits visibility and creates additional issues by freezing over the pilot house windows.
According to Todd, the ferry halted service at 8:00 Friday morning and will remain closed until weather conditions improve enough for the ferry to reopen.
The Cave-in-Rock Ferry connects KY 91 with Illinois Route 1 across the Ohio River between Crittenden County and Harden County, Illinois.
The ferry normally starts service at 6:00 a.m., 7 days a week. The last run from the Illinois landing is at 9:40 p.m. with the last run from the Kentucky landing at 9:50 p.m.
