On Wednesday, Lyon County Sheriff Brent White addressed some recent incidents involving students in the Lyon County School District.
Sheriff White sent out a message to parents and family members on social media and started the post by saying Lyon County has a “fantastic school district.”
He said, unfortunately, the district has had three incidents over the last few days and weeks where some of the district’s students have made bad choices which resulted in consequences for their actions.
White further stated that when a child makes a threat that could result in serious injury or death, they don’t speculate on whether they really meant it or not. He said what they have learned is investigated and corroborated. He added that if a crime of this nature has been committed, the person will be charged and likely detained in a juvenile detention facility if under the age of 18.
Sheriff White also praised School Resource Officer Jason Young, administrators of the Lyon County School District, and the students who have stepped up when they see something or hear something to ensure the school campus remains safe.
Earlier this week, Sheriff Whtie reported a 16-year old male juvenile at the Lyon County High School was charged with second-degree terorristic threatening after allegedly threatening to “bring a bomb and blow up the school.” The teen was lodged in the McCracken Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Paducah.
