Youth Inc. President, Beloved Coach Laid To Rest Wednesday

Caldwell Countians and surrounding communities are mourning the death of a beloved community member known to many kids as “Pa” because of his love of youth and sports. Dewight Meeks passed away Friday at Baptist Health Paducah. He was 66 years old.
Meeks was a 1975 graduate of Caldwell County High School and worked for the Princeton Electric Plant Board for 27 years. He also served as president of Caldwell County Youth, Incorporated. He coached hundreds of kids over the years and also served as commissioner.
A post on the Caldwell County Youth Inc./Ratliff Park social media page following Meek’s death said he was the “face of Youth Inc” and he would be “greatly missed”. The post went on to say Meeks always said “it’s all about the kids” and took great pride in getting the fields at Ratliff Park in perfect condition for the youth to play ball. The post concluded by stating there are three words Youth Inc. will hold tight to and will always remember Meeks by…Dedicated, committed, and passionate.

The Western Kentucky Jr. Pro Football, Cheer & Dance also shared a post on social media upon the news of Meeks’ death that they had a lot of great commissioners over the years, but Meeks “always wanted to make sure he went above and beyond for those kids in every program.”

The Dawson Springs Youth League remembered Meeks in a post and said he played a big hand in helping them have a “wonderful, much-needed 2022 season after the tornado.” It said although they may have been competitors on the field, “county lines didn’t matter when it came to helping his neighbors, and making sure all the kids had a fun-filled summer playing sports.”

Meeks was laid to rest Wednesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Funeral services were held at Southside Baptist Church where he was a member. Morgan Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne, daughter Jennifer Sigler and husband Garrick, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and brother, Gary Meeks and wife, Lisa of Princeton.
