A popular regional newspaper and its leadership have recently been recognized for “doing it right.”
According to the Kentucky Press Association, The Crittenden Press and its publishers — Chris and Allison Evans — have been awarded honorable mention status in this year’s Editor & Publisher magazine as “10 Publishers That Do It Right.”
Already winners of the 2022 Al Smith Award for community journalism and like-minded efforts, the Marion-based business will be featured in the April 2023 issue of the publication.
Locally owned since 1879, The Press is the oldest business in Crittenden County.
Current ownership by the Mick family began in 1960, when they branched out of radio announcing in Madisonville to begin a career in print.
Through the 1970’s and 1980’s, a third generation of Micks brought Allison into the fold — and as a teenager, she took photographs, worked in the darkroom and delivered newspapers.
Chris was hired in 1993, following long stints in Paris, Tennessee and Paducah. He had previously worked at The Press in the late 1980’s before joining The Paducah Sun before returning to Crittenden County and marrying Allison.
