The Caldwell County school board approved the building and grounds form for the bus garage to install EV bus chargers after the district received a $2.37 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency in October of 2022 for the purchase of electric buses. The board approved the purchase of six electric buses at its November 2022 meeting.
At Monday night’s board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Roach explained that this is the initial BG1 for the charging infrastructure at the bus garage for the electric buses, which will cost the district about $85,000.
click to download audioDr. Roach added the engineers and Princeton Electric Plant Board will be installing the EV bus chargers in the very back right corner of the bus garage. He said the Plant Board will be putting in a new transformer and connecting wires specifically for the EV infrastructure which will include three EV bus chargers — one for every two buses.
With a shortage of bus drivers in the school district as well as other districts in the region, the board also approved paying for all bus driver training fees. Dr. Roach explained the district is trying to reduce the burden on bus drivers they are trying to recruit.
