Caldwell County Beginning Magistrate Reapportionment Process

As is the case with counties across the state, Caldwell County is entering the latest round of reapportionment for its four county magistrates.
Caldwell County Clerk Jennifer Watson-Hale tells Your News Edge this process must occur every time after the U.S. Census.

Reapportionment was originally supposed to begin in 2021 well before the May 2022 election of county officers.
She adds that each of the four districts in the county must have the same population, with up to a five-percent differential on either side.

During Tuesday’s fiscal court meeting, commissioners voted on appointing Pam Faughn, Bridgie Miller, and Toni Watson to the committee to reapportion the districts.
Hale says work has not begun yet, so they are unsure how any of the districts will change.

The count for each district is based on population and not registered voters in Caldwell County.
