The Caldwell County Special Olympics team is once again heading to the state competition, this time in track and field.
Roy Gene Rogers is one of the coaches for the group and shared 13 athletes and chaperones will be leaving Friday morning for Richmond, where they will be competing.
He stated the state track & field competition is a huge event for the team.
Rogers shared it takes a lot of practice for the athletes to be able to compete at the state level and they had to qualify at the regional competition.
He added the team is excited about staying in dorm rooms while competing.
Local special olympic athletes are very active in different sports throughout the year. Some of them compete in multiple sports and the next activity for them will be the bowling season.
For more information about the special olympic program contact Rogers or Vickie Purcell who serves as the local coordinator.
