An investigation into a report of a robbery in Lyon County has led to drug charges for two men in Marion Thursday.
Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies say they were called to the Huck’s Travel Center in Kuttawa for two out-of-state men that were robbed and kidnapped.
They reportedly got a ride from a male and female who they promised food and fuel in return for the ride.
Deputies say the victim’s credit card would not work and the man they promised the food and fuel to ordered them to get back in the car and drove recklessly on some secondary roads before brandishing a handgun and forcing them to empty their pockets.
The victims were reportedly left at a rural church and received a ride from someone else to the gas station.
The Sheriff’s Office petitioned Crittenden district court for a search warrant of a residence in Marion after they were able to identify the male and female that were reportedly involved in the robbery.
Deputies say during the search of the home six people were detained and meth, digital scales, plastic bags, money, a handgun, and ammunition were located.
35-year-old William Mayers of Marion and 44-year-old Joseph Workman of Salem were arrested and charged with trafficking meth (more than 2 grams) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mayers was also charged with prescription not in the proper container and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
Deputies say the evidence relating to the robbery and kidnapping was seized at the home and they are continuing to investigate the incident that will be presented to the Grand Jury for competent jurisdiction.
The investigation was a joint effort by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office, and the Western Kentucky Violent Crimes Task Force.
