The National Weather Service has issued advisories for a mixture of heat and potential rain that should leave by the middle of next week.
A heat advisory remains in effect until 8:00 tonight for all of western Kentucky.
A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued until 11:00 tonight for Caldwell, Christian, Hopkins, Lyon, Marshall, Todd, and Trigg counties.
There is a chance of thunderstorms tonight and some of the storms could be locally strong or severe, with isolated damaging winds and large hail.
Thunderstorm chances will increase on Saturday and Sunday with heat indices on Saturday exceeding 100 degrees again before storms arrive.
Heat index values Friday afternoon were between 110 and 120 degrees with Murray reporting a max heat index of 126 degrees.
Derrick Synder, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Paducah, said more seasonable weather should return next week although that still means high temperatures in the low 90s.
