Caldwell County Fiscal Court approved the hiring of a deputy treasurer at Tuesday morning’s meeting and approved a grant request for the county’s jail.
In new business, Judge-Executive Kota Young shared that the fiscal court needed to hire a deputy treasurer to work alongside Deputy Treasurer Glenda Harper, who he said is leaving the position to relocate to a warmer climate. District 2 Magistrate Jeff Boone recommended hiring Kasey Oliver for the position.

click to download audioAdditionally, Harper elaborated on the benefits of the grant, stating that it would enable the jail to implement telehealth visits for the inmates.
click to download audioDuring the discussion, District 4 Magistrate Jeff Simms inquired about the potential of telehealth services to help the county reduce future medical coverage expenses. In response, Harper expressed uncertainty about the specifics but suggested that if they could establish a partnership with a provider that offers on-demand inmate healthcare, it could potentially lead to cost savings in the long run.
In addition, Harper said Mitchell’s Heating and Cooling will be installing a new heating and air unit at the jail on Thursday.
Caldwell County Clerk Jennifer Hale Watson brought forth a recommendation from the County Board of Elections during the meeting. The recommendation proposed an increase in the pay for utilizing polling facilities, suggesting a raise from $30 per day to $100 per day to help cover some of the associated costs.

The Fiscal Court also approved the election workers’ expenses to be paid on Election Day, and a housekeeping item for a franchise agreement with Spectrum Mid-America, LLC.
