The Salvation Army Expands Veteran Program To Four Counties

The Salvation Army has announced the expansion of its Supportive Services for Veteran Families program, to include four additional counties in Western Kentucky: Caldwell, Crittenden, Livingston and Lyon. Officials say this expansion is part of the ongoing commitment to serving our nation’s heroes, who may be facing homelessness or are imminently at risk of becoming homeless.
According to The Salvation Army, the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program, which is an initiative by the VA, has been specifically designed to offer housing stability-focused services to very low-income veteran families across Western Kentucky. The primary objective of the program is to stabilize these families by providing secure housing and offering continuous support to promote independent living. The Salvation Army has secured the contract for this program in the newly added counties, in addition to the existing service area of Ballard, Carlisle, Hickman, Fulton, Graves, Calloway, Marshall, Trigg, Christian, Todd, Hopkins and McCracken counties.
Officials say the program offers a range of vital services to veterans, including housing and health care navigation, emergency financial assistance, and legal services. These services are tailored to the unique needs of each veteran family, aiming to address the root causes of homelessness and promote self-sufficiency.
This expansion comes at a critical time as statistics show that 8.4% of Kentucky’s veterans currently live in poverty, according to the Housing Assistance Council. The Salvation Army’s program is dedicated to helping address this issue, working hand in hand with veterans to overcome homelessness and housing instability.
To support this endeavor, The Salvation Army is also seeking landlord partners who have rental property and are interested in providing housing for veterans in need. By working together, officials say The Salvation Army and landlords can make a significant difference in the lives of veterans and their families.
