The co-founder of Trice Hughes Chevrolet – Oldsmobile in Princeton, Ada Lou Hughes, passed away Friday at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville after a brief stay. She was 94.
According to her obituary, Hughes was born in Crittenden County to Lawrence and Addie Elizabeth Carlton Tabor. After graduating from Marion High School, she became a dental assistant until she married Trice Lee Hughes and they moved to Virginia due to his military obligations. In Virginia, she initially worked as an office assistant at the Pentagon before taking a position at a Chevrolet dealership where she gained valuable business skills that would later be important in her joint venture with her husband, Trice Hughes Chevrolet-Oldsmobile in Kuttawa. She managed the office and remained actively involved in the business even after it relocated to Princeton in 1959. Eventually, she reduced her involvement to spend more time with her four children, but she still maintained some level of involvement in the business for many years.
Hughes was a member of First Baptist Church in Princeton for 60 years, actively involved in various church activities. In addition, she served on the advisory board and later on the board of trustees of the Kentucky Baptist Children’s Homes for more than two decades. She was also involved with the Caldwell County High School music and football programs and prepared food for Meals on Wheels.
Hughes leaves behind four children, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
