Local residents need to be aware that the City of Marion plans to close U.S. 60/Main Street through the downtown area for the annual Christmas Parade on Saturday evening.
District 1 spokesman Keith Todd with the state transportation cabinet says the parade will run along U.S. 60/Main Street starting at the U.S. 641 intersection at Crittenden County mile point 9.2 extending northward along Main Street through the downtown area to First Street at mile point 9.688, a distance of about 1/4th of a mile.
According to Todd, the Christmas Parade will start at 5:00 Saturday afternoon. The parade is expected to last approximately one hour.
The Marion Police Department, Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department, and rescue squad personnel will be providing traffic control during the event.
Todd says passenger vehicles may self-detour via side streets. However, he indicated there is no practical detour for commercial trucks.
