James Edward Payne, a hard worker and devoted family man, passed away on December 13, 2023, at the Nashville VA Medical Center. He was born on August 12, 1935, in Caldwell County. James proudly served in the United States Army and cherished his time in the military.
After his honorable service, James embarked on a fulfilling career as a truck driver and farmer. He took great pride in his work and instilled the value of hard work in his children. His dedication to providing for his family was unwavering.
Outside of work, James enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep love for his farm and spent countless hours tending to it. Fishing and gathering around campfires with his loved ones brought him immense joy. James cherished these moments spent in nature and created lasting memories with his family.
James is survived by his children: Michael Payne of Princeton, Gary Payne of Princeton, Rhonda Tubbs (Steve) of Madisonville, and Sharon Burchett (Barry) of Hopkinsville, and his sister Rosie Chronister of Princeton. His presence will also be deeply felt by his grandchildren: Chad Harris, Kurt Harris, Jamie Harris, Craig Harris, Austin Burchett, Brandy Payne, Brandon Hardick, Logan Payne, Nicole Payne and step-grandchildren: Kevin Burchett, and Ryan Burchett; as well as several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Betty Brewer Payne, his parents George Payne and Mary Board Payne, his brother Jessie Payne, and step-granddaughter Frieda Harris.
To honor and celebrate the remarkable life of James Edward Payne, a funeral service will be held on December 16th at 12:00 PM at Goodman Funeral Home located at 1032 West Main St. in Princeton with Bro. Johnnie Davis officiating. A visitation will also take place on December 16th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. Friends, family, and all whose lives he touched are invited to attend these services and pay their respects. Burial will follow at Perry Cemetery
James Edward Payne was a dedicated individual who made an indelible impact on the lives of those around him. His legacy of hard work, love for his family, and joy in simple pleasures will be forever remembered and treasured. May he rest in peace.
