Over the weekend, hundreds of Western Kentucky families impacted by the December 2021 tornado received a free grocery box to help support them during this holiday season.
According to officials in Dawson Springs, 500 boxes of food, with hams, were given out to residents at the high school on Saturday, as well as gift bags.
The grocery giveaway was made possible by the Kentucky Dream Center in partnership with Virginia-based disaster relief group Mercy Chefs, Kentucky Pork Producers Association, The National Pork Board, Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Specialty Foods Group of Owensboro, Dawson Springs Family Resource Youth Service Center (FRYSC), Dawson Springs Rotary Club, and Fuller Center Disaster Rebuilders.
Mercy Chefs is a global non-profit disaster response group that specializes in feeding people affected by disasters.
