Officials with Caldwell County Public Schools have announced that the Hopkins County Health Department is issuing a caution advising citizens against consuming any strawberries purchased from the Hopkins County football team fundraiser.
According to the Hopkins County Health Department, the Department of Public Health Environmentalists is conducting thorough testing of the strawberries at the state lab as a precautionary measure.
Hopkins County Public Health Director Denise Beach has released information from Medical Examiner Dr. Christopher Kiefer who stated the incident involving the strawberries looks like an isolated allergic reaction. He said that this is a preliminary report, but still advised not eating the strawberries.
Officials with Caldwell County Public Schools say the strawberries they received were part of the same shipment as those distributed by Hopkins County Schools. However, officials emphasized they have not received any reports of illness associated with the strawberries in Caldwell County.
School officials are advising those who received their strawberries Thursday to refrain from consuming them until further notice, and they are closely monitoring the situation.
Officials said will provide regular updates as they receive more information.
Meanwhile, officials with Dawson Springs Independent Schools also said they do not believe the strawberries they sold in Dawson Springs are impacted. However, as a precautionary measure officials are advising that you do not eat any of those strawberries.
