Murray State Athletics announced last week it has received $1.4 million in gifts from the estate of lifelong Princeton resident Jim Bob Kevil and the former Racer Foundation.
University officials said the donation will support the department’s capital campaign efforts to expand the Athletics program, strengthening the Racers’ dedication to enhancing the student-athlete experience. This substantial contribution represents the fifth seven-figure gift received by Racer Athletics this year.
Director of Athletics Nico Yantko expressed gratitude for Kevil’s unwavering support of Murray State Athletics. He emphasized the immense appreciation for Kevil’s generous contribution to the athletics department. He said these transformative gifts will have a major impact on the department’s future initiatives, particularly in enhancing facilities and the overall student-athlete experience.
According to officials, Murray State has seen significant growth in its facilities, with nearly $2 million invested in capital projects, including the renovations to the weight room at Roy Stewart Stadium and the men’s basketball locker room.
Completed projects in the past 18 months include the Baseball/Softball Performance Center, upgrades to football team spaces, and the installation of new LED lights in the CFSB Center.
MSU President Dr. Bob Jackson stated that Jim Bob Kevil loved Murray State University and Racer Athletics and his estate gift will leave a lasting legacy. In addition, he recognized and thanked the former Racer Foundation for their gift from a few years ago to support MSU’s Athletic programs. He noted that these combined gifts will leave an indelible mark on the institution as they move forward, both academically and athletically.
The Racer Club is essential in providing vital support for student-athlete scholarships, the general operating budget, and facility enhancements. Investors play a critical role in funding the student-athlete experience and the competitive success of Murray State Athletics programs and student-athletes.
