Devonna Vilt, 79, of Princeton

Devonna Lynn Knudson Johnson Vilt, known affectionately as Devonna to her friends and family, passed away on March 23, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on March 11, 1945, in Morris, Illinois, Devonna was a spirited soul who brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. She departed peacefully in Kankakee, IL, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and dedication.

Devonna was predeceased by her beloved parents, Leroy Knudson and Dorothy Mae Downs Knudson, as well as her cherished granddaughter, Amber Vilt. She is survived by a family who adored her: her daughter, Paula Moreno of Bourbonnais, IL; her sons, Patrick “Rick” (Lisa) Vilt of Princeton, KY, and Michael (Dawn) Vilt of Phillips, Wisconsin; her grandchildren, Jeremiah Fraher, Mirrissa Fraher, Gage Siegel, Stephon Moreno, Bryce, Austin, and Aaron Vilt; and her great-grandchildren, Sebastian Fraher, Gabriel Siegel, Serian Jordon, Ezra Siegel, Killian Siegel, Trinidy Moreno, Nola Carlton, Emmett Carlton, Tilleigh Mae Vilt and Hallea Jay Vilt. Each of these individuals held a special place in Devonna’s heart, and her influence will live on through them.

Devonna’s work ethic and commitment to service were evident throughout her life. She was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, where she honed her skills and discipline. After her military service, she contributed to her community as a mental health technician at Shapiro Development Center, where her compassion and dedication made a difference in the lives of many. Earlier in her career, she was also a valued employee at a coat factory in Durant, Mississippi, where her meticulous work was greatly appreciated by all.

Apart from her professional endeavors, Devonna had a zest for life and a variety of interests that kept her vibrant. She had an undeniable love for chocolate, which was only matched by her passion for mental gymnastics like crossword puzzles and word searches. Bingo nights were a particular joy for Devonna, where her competitive spirit and infectious laughter would light up the room.

Devonna’s journey through life was marked by her unwavering strength and the deep bonds she formed with those around her. Her presence was a comforting force, and her ability to connect with others on a genuine level made her truly unique. The memories she created with her loved ones will continue to be cherished and celebrated. As Devonna’s family and friends bid her farewell, they take solace in knowing that her spirit remains alive within each of them.

Devonna’s life will be commemorated in a graveside ceremony at Crossroads Church Cemetery on Friday, March 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Bro. Bobby McInTosh officiating, where her family will gather to honor her memory and the remarkable woman she was. Her laughter, her wisdom, and her unwavering love for her family will never be forgotten. Devonna Lynn Johnson’s story is one of a life well-lived, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
