Brenda Pepper, 76, of Princeton

Brenda Orvillene Fortner Pepper, 76, of Princeton, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024, at the Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center of Mercy Health in Paducah, Kentucky.

Brenda’s journey began on January 21, 1948, in Fulton, Kentucky, where she was born to the late James Arlis “Buddy” Fortner and Mary Datha Walker Fortner Gray.

Characterized by her loving and faith-filled spirit, Brenda shared 57 inseparable years with her cherished husband, Michael Pepper, who preceded her in death. Their endearing love story began in the eighth grade, setting a foundation of unwavering partnership and commitment. Together, they built a family and a life that was abundant in love and laughter. The matriarch of her beloved family, Brenda was always leading by example with her prioritization of family, faith, and work. She found joy in supporting and watching her children and grandchildren in performances and sporting events.

Her educational journey saw her begin undergraduate studies at Austin Peay State University before joyfully embracing the role of mother. Brenda was also the co-owner of Fortner Gas Company, a family-owned business, where she served both customers and employees with immeasurable passion.

An integral part of her community, Brenda taught children’s Sunday school at Southside Baptist Church before she and Michael ultimately became active members of Central Presbyterian Church in Princeton. Brenda had a zest for life that found its rhythm in music – playing the clarinet was one of her cherished passions, a spark ignited during her time as a majorette in her high school band under the baton of Mr. and Mrs. Allo.

Brenda is survived by her daughter, Michala Pepper (Kemp) Smith of Hopkinsville; son, Chad (Michelle) Pepper of Princeton; brother, Rollie (Sammie Anne) Fortner of Princeton; her adored grandchildren, Jake (Natalie) Pepper, Savannah Pepper, Eli (Taylor) Pepper, Sophi Park; and her great-grandchildren, Quin and Vivi.

In addition to her husband and parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her step-father, Clarence Gray, and her dear son, Jason Pepper.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Morgan’s Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Fortenberry officiating. Burial will follow in Rowland Cemetery in Caldwell County.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Morgan’s Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Brenda’s memory to Central Presbyterian Missions, 206 West Main Street, Princeton, KY 42445 to support their outreach program that supplies baked goods for the disabled in Haiti.
