Margaret “Mammie” Smith, age 85 of Princeton, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Caldwell Medical Center.
She was born on September 19, 1938 in Princeton to her late parents, James William “J.W.” and Ora Pearl Gray. She was a member of Eddy Creek Baptist Church and was known for her dedication to her family. She enjoyed cooking and loving on her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She started her career as a boarder at Princeton Hosiery Mill, later joining her daughters and son-in-law at Morgan’s Funeral Home before eventually retiring and focusing her time on her family.
Mammie is survived by two daughters, Glenda Joyce of Paducah, Linda (Rick) Morgan of Princeton; one son, Randy (Christa) Capps of Elkton; three sisters, JoAnn Sullivan of Caldwell County, Connie (Danny) Joyce of Caldwell County, Brenda (Roger) Joyce of Caldwell County; three brothers, Louard (Betty) Gray of Caldwell County, Murl (Mary) Gray of Morgantown, Gary (Barbara) Gray of Caldwell County; one sister-in-law, Colleen Gray; seven grandchildren, Aaron (Marcia) Joyce, Wes Oliver, Rebecca Joyce, Micah Wall, Brandi (Ben) Cherry, Justin (Katie) Capps, Brittany Weihe; nine great-grandchildren, Alice Emilia Joyce, Henry William Joyce, Morgan Aikins, Pax Aikins, Waylon Wall, Noble Crew Oliver, Kensley Capps, William Capps, Jackson Hess; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Leslie Joyce; one brother, James “Jimmie” Gray.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Morgan’s Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Morgan’s Funeral Home with Bro. Dave Fambrough officiating and Bro. Ronnie Sivells assisting. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery in Caldwell County.
