The Princeton Optimist-Kiwanis Radio Auction gained some momentum as it entered its second night, with three nights left to raise funds for the youth in Caldwell and Lyon counties.
Optimist Club member George Kilgore announced that 43 items were sold on Tuesday night, raising $2,361. This brings the two-night total to 83 items sold for a combined $3,483, compared to last year’s total of $3,571 from 93 items sold.
This year, to support the scholarship program in honor of Radio Auction Heroes —Optimist Club member Melba McGowan and contributors Tom Ward and Troy Vinson — a special auction is being held for a collector’s edition classic car. The car was generously donated by Larry Wynn, the organizer of the local cruise-in and car show club.
During Tuesday night’s auction, Edge Media Group President and CEO Beth Mann spoke with Laci Vinson Harper, daughter of Troy, who became emotional as she shared that her love for the radio auction began with her father.

One of the highlights of the evening was when Kilgore shared that they had received a phone call from Jason Redford, president of First Southern Bank in Princeton, who made a $1,500 donation.
click to download audioAccording to Kilgore, the total for the second night strictly reflects the amount raised during the auction and does not include contributions from Platinum partners or the $1,500 donation from First Southern Bank.
Mann was pleased with the amount raised over the first two nights of the auction.
click to download audioThe Princeton Optimist and Kiwanis clubs will continue to accept donated items through Friday. Kilgore mentioned that these items can be dropped off at the First Baptist Christian Life Center after 4:00 each afternoon. Donated items can also be delivered to WPKY or give to any member of the clubs.
The community is invited to visit the radio auction at the First Baptist Church Christian Life Center in downtown Princeton or tune in to WPKY to listen and place bids. The T-Mobile phone numbers for bidding can be found on WPKY’s Facebook page. The radio auction continues through Friday.
