Cotha Stovall, 103, of Sweetwater, Tennessee

Cotha Corrine Hollowell Stovall,103, went to be with the Lord on May 28, 2024, in Sweetwater, Tennessee.
Cotha was born on June 9, 1920, in Crider, Kentucky to the late George Edmond and Beulah Gray Hollowell. Playing the piano, horseback riding and driving, which she learned to do at the age of 12, were her favorite activities as she grew up. She was valedictorian of her high school class in Fredonia, Kentucky and went to Western Kentucky State Teacher’s College (currently Western Kentucky University) for a time.
Cotha’s life was dominated by two main principles, her love for the Lord Jesus Christ and her love and care for her family. She married Leland Stovall in 1944 after his return from deployment in Northern Africa and Europe during World War II. During her lifetime she lived in many locations, moving as Leland had job advancements in Tennessee and Kentucky. In each location she not only made a comfortable home for her family, worked part time in various church secretarial jobs, and was an active member in her churches, the longest memberships being at Neeley’s Bend Baptist Church, Madison, Tennessee where she was church pianist, and First Baptist Church, Eddyville, Kentucky.
Cotha and Leland enjoyed traveling to many states in the US, and internationally to Canada, Mexico, Jordan, and Egypt. She was also very active in Eastern Star and County Homemakers. She became a Worthy Matron in Eastern Star and was honored with the titles of Dutchess of Paducah and Kentucky Colonel for community service. Her hobbies included sewing and crochet. Most recently, her favorite pastime was long truck rides with her grandson Josh.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 64 years William Leland Stovall, Sr. who passed away in 2008, daughter Sheril Lynn Stovall (1952) and great-granddaughter Stella Mae Stovall (2017). She is survived by her children Linda Stovall Rucker and son-in-law Roger Rucker of Edgemont, Arkansas and William Leland Stovall, Jr, (Butch) and daughter-in-law Cindy Stovall of Sweetwater, Tennessee, grandchildren Keturah Rucker Nipper (spouse Daniel), Dema Rucker Blackwell (spouse Steven), Rachel Rucker West (spouse Wade), Katherine Stovall Poe and Joshua Stovall (spouse Ashley) as well as 14 great-grandchildren. She was deeply loved by family and friends. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to those at Wood Village for their excellent love and care for Cotha during the past 8 years.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville, KY.  Graveside service will follow at 1:15 pm at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Old Eddyville.
