The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Heat Advisory for western Kentucky for Saturday afternoon.
Officials say heat indices between 105 and 109 are possible between Noon and 7:00 PM.
The combination of high temperatures and elevated humidity levels is expected to create conditions that could lead to heat-related illnesses, particularly for those spending extended time outdoors. The advisory warns that the extreme heat can cause significant strain on the body, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
To mitigate the risks associated with the heat advisory, the National Weather Service advises residents to take the following precautions:
- Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
- Spend time in air-conditioned environments whenever possible.
- Limit exposure to the sun, especially during peak hours.
- Ensure that relatives and neighbors, particularly the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions, stay cool and well-hydrated.
