Thea Burtch Art Exhibition-Charles Alvin Lisanby Gallery
July 13 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
The Princeton Art Guild is honored to announce our next show:
‘Project One’
a Thea Burtch Art Exhibition in our Charles Alvin Lisanby Gallery
NOW through August 30th, 2024
“I have never been enrolled in a steady art class. Most of what I know about art, I have randomly accumulated over the past three years. Of course, I have been drawing since I was a little kid. I always loved creating and crafting and I knew I always wanted to be an artist when I grew up. Now I can confidently say that I didn’t even have to wait to grow up first.
I live in Oblong, Illinois. I have never gone to public school, instead being home-schooled by my mom from pre-k through now. I will begin my junior year of high school this coming fall. I do not have any siblings, though a few of my friends certainly fill that place.
I am very new to the world of art and I still do not know just where I fit in to it yet. I have tried selling at vendor events, taking commissions, and now, an exhibition. If you asked me two years ago if I could paint, I would have probably said no. I would have said my medium was graphite and graphite only. Now, while I still continue to sketch, I have also experimented with watercolors, oils, colored pencils, and clay. Clay is definitely not my strong suit, but acrylic painting is. I like that it is messy and colorful and I can sit for hours painting something that could be cute or scary or eerie, and it is completely subjective. Sometimes I paint detailed scenes or portraits as carefully as I can, just for my next work to be finger painted. I think that is what I like about art; no matter how precise or intricate your work may be, there is always a satisfaction in saying ‘who cares?’ and creating what you want to create.”
