A Livingston County man has been arrested on theft and multiple drug possession charges after an investigation in Lyon County.

Sheriff Brent White reports 36-year old Adam Attia of Salem was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with tampering with physical evidence, theft, possession of meth, suboxone, and marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Sheriff White, the charges are in connection to a theft complaint at the Eddyville McDonald’s restaurant on August 6 where a senior couple from Illinois had stopped to eat lunch in the dining room and the female victim accidentally left her purse before leaving the restaurant.

Sheriff White says an investigation revealed that Attia came into the restaurant with his young daughter and took the purse to the Playland area, stole the contents and later hid the phone from the purse in the Playland tunnel. Attia then reportedly discarded the purse in a bathroom trash can at the restaurant.

Sheriff White stated that Attia was identified following tips from the public when the sheriff’s office posted pictures of the suspect on social media, requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the individual.

On Tuesday, Sheriff White and deputies were conducting surveillance at a Kuttawa business searching for Attia when he stopped at the business. When he left the business, Sheriff White says Attia was stopped on US 62 where he was taken into custody around 5:15 Tuesday afternoon. During the arrest, Attia was reportedly found in possession of illegal narcotics and several items of stolen property.

Attia was lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.
