FEMA’s Individual Assistance program has recently introduced significant updates, including Displacement Assistance.

If you were affected by the severe storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes from May 21-27, and your primary residence is in Caldwell, Christian, Hopkins, Logan, Muhlenberg, Todd, Trigg, or the other eight counties where federal disasters were declared, you may be eligible for this assistance.

According to FEMA, Displacement Assistance provides funds for survivors to stay in a hotel, motel, with family and friends, or other available housing options.

The eligibility criteria includes:

  • The applicant or a household member must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified non-citizen.
  • FEMA must be able to confirm the applicant’s identity.
  • The home must be in a declared disaster area and be the primary residence for most of the year.
  • A FEMA inspection must determine whether the home is unsafe or inaccessible.
  • The homeowner must be uninsured or lack Additional Living Expense or Loss of Use coverage.
  • An application for FEMA assistance must be completed within the 60-day registration period, ending September 22.

Displacement Assistance provides a one-time payment covering up to 14 days of hotel costs at a rate set by the state. This assistance can be used for temporary lodging in a hotel, motel, or with friends or family.

There are several ways to apply: Visit a Disaster Recovery Center, go online to DisasterAssistance.gov, call 800-621-3362 from 7 a.m. to midnight local time every day, or use the FEMA mobile app. If you use a relay service such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA your number for that service.
