Caldwell Grand Jury Returns Indictments for Credit Card Fraud, Theft, and Burglary

Individuals charged with credit card fraud and theft were among several indictments returned by the Caldwell County Grand Jury this month.

A true bill was returned on Laura Beatrice Copeland, of Princeton, on a single count of fraudulent use of a credit under $10,000.

Princeton Police said Copeland was arrested after an investigation began when the victim told officers that she had used his credit card multiple times without his permission. According to the indictment, the alleged crime occurred between April 22 and June 20.

A true bill was returned on Chance Willis on one count of theft by unlawfully taking $10,000 or more for an incident on November 4, 2023. .

The indictment alleges Willis took or exercised control over the movable property of another with the intent to deprive the victim.

Austin Hillard, of Princeton, was indicted on one count of receiving stolen property under $10,000.

The indictment alleges that between November 4, 2023, and November 6, 2023, Hillard received, retained, or disposed of the movable property of another knowing that it had been stolen. The value of the property was reportedly more than $1,000, but less than $10,000.

The grand jury indicted both Daylane Messamore and Hailie Anne McGinnis, both of Madisonville, on complicity to burglary, third-degree.

According to the indictment, Messamore and McGinnis are accused of knowingly entering or remaining unlawfully in a building on May 6 with the intent to commit a crime in Caldwell County.

A no-true bill was returned for Benton Jarvis Daugherty of Princeton on a charge of sexual abuse, resulting in the dismissal of the charge. He also faced charges of indecent exposure and distribution of obscene matter to minors, which are misdemeanor offenses. These charges were remanded to Caldwell District Court by the grand jury.
