The Madisonville Sportsplex has been in the planning stages for so long that when ground was originally broken on the project in 2007, it was at a different site.
However, the facility is no longer just a vision.
Work has been completed at the current site on Midtown Boulevard and, on Thursday, the SportsPlex got its official name.
But first, Hopkins County Judge Executive Jack Whitfield said it took a community effort to get the project finished….
The 90,000-square foot facility features six basketball courts, 12 volleyball courts, 22 pickleball courts, a 60-yard indoor soccer field and two event rooms.
General manager Brett Roddy said Thursday that he envisions the SportsPlex as a hub of activity and an economic driver for Madisonville….
Sports Facilities Companies operates the indoor complex on behalf of the city and the county.
As for the official name of the SportsPlex, Madisonville mayor Kevin Cotton had the honor of the brand reveal….
Tournaments are already scheduled for January at the newly-christened Kentucky Sports Factory in Madisonville.
