Princeton City Council is considering the possibility of adding another packaging store in the community.
During Monday night’s City Council meeting, Code Enforcement Officer Alan Getz said that several individuals have shown interest in opening a new packaging store. To facilitate this, he explained that the quota would need to be increased, necessitating a request to the state from the City Council.
click to download audioHe stated that the City Council would need an ordinance for the area to be a wet county for at least a year, which he said they need. In addition, Getz said they would need to publish a notice and obtain a certified copy of the governing body’s resolution approving the request to increase the quota, along with providing some basic information.
click to download audioGetz said he wanted to discuss this matter with the Council before initiating the request to the state, to determine if they want him to move forward.
In response to a question regarding the city’s population, Getz stated that, according to the latest Census data, the city has a population 6,210 while the county’s population stands at 12,551.
click to download audioMayor Brock Thomas suggested that the City Council postpone any action to allow time for consideration and further review, with plans to revisit the issue at the next meeting. He also expressed his appreciation to Getz and City Clerk Julie Pool for their collaborative efforts over the past few months on Alcohol Beverage Control initiatives to boost business and explore innovative solutions.
Getz reported that alcohol sales increased by approximately $633 in October; however, he noted that year-to-date alcohol sales have decreased by about $3,500.
