With the Christmas holiday two weeks away, gas prices in west central Kentucky are rolling lower at the perfect time.
According to this week’s AAA East Central Gas Price Report, averages around here are eight cents lower than the last seven days — down from $2.69 to $2.61 a gallon.
This time last year, it was nearly $2.76 a gallon.
For the News Edge listening area, it’s: $2.82 in Trigg County, $2.75 in Lyon County, $2.79 in Caldwell County, $2.61 in Christian County, $2.62 in Todd County, $2.56 in Hopkins County, $2.75 in Muhlenberg County, $2.56 in Logan County, $2.66 in Crittenden County and $2.64 in Marshall County.
At key locations around the Commonwealth, it’s $2.64 in Bowling Green, $2.55 in Elizabethtown, $2.79 in Louisville, $2.48 in Owensboro and $2.59 in Paducah.
Furthermore, the national average for a gallon of gas continues to fall. Over the past week, it has dropped three cents to $3.01, and the average has been less than a dime away from $3 for more than a month.
The last time it was below $3: May 11, 2021.
More than 30 states have gas prices below $3, and today’s national average is eight cents less than a month ago and 15 cents less than a year ago.
At the close of last Wednesday’s formal trading session, West Texas Intermediate fell $1.40 to settle at $68.54 a barrel.
