The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam in which the caller is impersonating law enforcement officials.
According to the sheriff’s office, they have been alerted to a scam involving a caller who falsely claims to be from the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, using the name of a non-existent deputy. The caller tells individuals they have missed a court date, records the conversation, and asks them to state their name.
Local authorities emphasize that the sheriff’s office will never call individuals about a missed court date or ask them to state their name over the phone. Additionally, the sheriff’s office believes that their phone number is likely being spoofed.
Residents should remain vigilant and cautious of this scam. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately and avoid engaging in any conversation.
You can report the scammer’s phone number to the Attorney General’s Office at 888-432-9257 to help track and address scam activities.
