CCMS Academic Team Triumphs at 5th District Governor’s Cup

The Caldwell County Middle School Academic Team, coached by Sonia McClung and Gary Goodaker, competed in the 2025 5th District Governor’s Cup competition on Tuesday, January 14, and Saturday, January 18 at Lyon County Middle School.

School officials said Caldwell finished first place overall by placing ten students in the six individual events, as well as finishing first in the team Future Problem Solving competition and earning a runner-up placement in Quick Recall.

Information from the school says Caldwell earned 52 points on the way to winning the championship over Crittenden County Middle School, Dawson Springs Middle School, Lyon County Middle School, and Trigg County Middle School. The following students placed in their individual events and will advance to the 2nd Region Governor’s Cup in February.

Math: AriElla Hughes, 4th

Science: Trey Copeland, 1st; Declan (deck-lan) Miller, 3rd; Sam Adams, 4th

Social Studies: Trey Copeland, 2nd; Declan Miller, 3rd; Jonah Marks, 4th

Language Arts: Jeremiah Marks, 1st

Arts/Humanities: Lauren Cotton, 2nd; Claire Shrewsbury, 3rd ; Vivian McClure, 4th

Composition: Brandon Hall, 1st place

The Future Problem Solving Team of AriElla Hughes, Jeremiah Marks, Vivian McClure, and Claire Shrewsbury will advance to the 2nd Region Governor’s Cup along with the Quick Recall Team of Sam Adams, Trey Copeland, Lauren Cotton, Brandon Hall, AriElla Hughes, Jeremiah Marks, Jonah Marks, Vivian McClure, Declan Miller, and Claire Shrewsbury.
